Itacaré is a year round destination. It is warm in every season, the sea stays around 28 °C and the Atlantic rainforest is always green. Even so, the best time to visit Itacaré depends on what you are after: lively days in the sun, waves to surf or quiet days at better prices.
In this guide, we explain how the weather and demand change over the year so you can choose the right moment.
Itacaré's weather at a glance
Temperatures vary little. Between November and March, highs are around 28 to 29 °C, with lows close to 24 °C. Rain is spread throughout the year, but the driest months are usually August, September and October, while March and April are, on average, the wettest. Even then, rain usually comes in short showers between sunny spells.
December to February: summer, sunshine and high season
This is the most popular period. Long days, heat, inviting sea and a lively town, especially on Rua Pituba and the central beaches. New Year's Eve and Carnival bring the highest demand of the year.
On the other hand, prices go up and larger homes are booked well in advance. If you are traveling as a group or family on these dates, book several months ahead.
March to June: quieter and greener
After Carnival, Itacaré calms down. It is the rainiest time of year, peaking in March and April, but also when nature is at its lushest and waterfalls are at their fullest. Easter and long holiday weekends bring peaks in visitors.
If a few showers don't bother you, it is a good time to find availability and lower rates.
July: school holidays and waves
July combines Brazilian school holidays with cold fronts that help build bigger waves. The town attracts families and surfers, and demand rises again. In 2026, Airbnb even listed Itacaré among the trending destinations of the mid year season.
August to November: drier weather and a quiet town
For many locals, this is Itacaré's best kept secret. August, September and October are among the least rainy months, the beaches are emptier and it is easier to find great homes available. November already brings the warmth that announces summer.
It is an excellent time for hikes, boat trips and anyone looking to rest.
The best time for each type of traveler
For sun, heat and nightlife: December to February.
To save money and avoid crowds: August to November, outside holidays.
For surfing: mid year usually brings the strongest waves, but Itacaré has spots for every level all year.
For traveling with children: the July holidays and August to November offer a good balance of weather, sea and prices.
For hikes and waterfalls: drier months make walking easier; after the rains, the waterfalls are more beautiful.
Top tip: check the tide table
In Itacaré, the tide changes the beaches dramatically. Some stretches of sand and natural pools only appear at low tide, and some access paths are easier then. Before heading to the beach, check the day's tide table.
